So Far This Week

We are gearing up for the summer season at Frugal. Unfortunately, I am way behind schedule so I am in rush mode. Catfish Feastival is less than 2 weeks away and the following Saturday is the start of our local Farmer's Market.

So far I have Pennies From Heaven soap and perfume wrapped and labelled. Pause soap is wrapped and the perfume is ready for bottling tomorrow. Hopefully the Pause will be labelled as well..

It's All In The Name

Conversation in the workshop:

"What do you think of the name Jolene [as perfume name]? I know it's the name of the fictional home wrecker in Dolly Parton's song. But do you think it's celebrating that kind of behavior? Would I be making the unintentional statement that I condone such behavior. Because I may as well call it Home Wrecker, or Mistress, or The Other Woman".

"Um..."

"Nevermind. I'll find another name".

Footprints in Sand Mold

I was so excited about my purchases today, I just had to share. Big Shout Out Rustic Escentuals for adding soap molds to the catalog (Thank you, thank you, thank you).

This is another naming a product tale. Last year I released a male scent I named Believer. Originally I wanted to call it Sunday Morning, because that is what came to mind. No kidding! I could visualize watching my grandfather getting ready for church. Now, since I didn't want to limit my market and keep the name simple (and I couldn't get a copy of Sunday Morning by Earth, Wind, &Fire) I decided on Believer. I could visualize a soap bar with footprints in the sand. I found a soap mold similar to the above but the price was a lot higher...and the molds were sold as individual cavity. I couldn't work with that on Frugal's budget. So I made shower gel and waited.

So I get a tweet about Spring Sale at Rustic and notices that they have added to the catalog and I find...my footprint in sand molds. A whole lot cheaper and 3 cavities to a mold. This means I can sell my Believer soap the way I envisioned it.   While I was poking around the molds, I came across this. I already knew where that was going. I have a cologne that is curing called Mighty2 ( I could get that Earth, Wind, & Fire Song). So all is well in the Frugal workshop and just anxiously awaiting UPS tomorrow.

No One Told Me That Was A Song

Most of our fragrance (and some product) names are based on song titles.  I had a new fragrance oil called Pennies From Heaven. It smelt great but I didn't care for its name since it didn't meet my song requirement. So I spent most of Friday looking for a song to name my fragrance.

The first time I smelled Pennies From Heaven, it made me think of dancing in an old jazz club. So I began searching YouTube for old jazz standards. I found some great songs, but nothing really fit the scent. During the third or fourth hour (I lost count) of my search, I was listening to a Billie Holiday song when I noticed "Pennies From Heaven" right side of the screen. Actually it was listed 3 times. Pennies From Heaven by Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan. I'd spent all day searching for a song so I could rename a fragrance that already was a song title.
